Modern Apps for Legacy Windows!

The first successful application I managed getting to work is CCleaner 5.64.7577 for Windows XP RTM and earliest as Windows XP Beta 1 (Build 2410). Due to the kernel limitations on Windows XP RTM, Firefox 48.0.2 and Chrome 32.0.1700.107 is the last to run them unofficially. June 2025: CCleaner 5.64.7577 (Windows Whistler Post-Beta 1 Build 2410+) Chrome 23.0.1251.2 Dev / Chrome 22.0.1229.94 Stable (Windows 2000 SP4/Windows XP Build 2481) Chrome 49.0.2623.112 Stable (Windows .NET Server Build 3604 / Windows XP SP1 Beta Build 2600.1055) Firefox 52 (Windows .NET Server Build 3604 / Windows XP SP1 Beta Build 2600.1050) Firefox 48.0.2 / Firefox 45.9.0 ESR (Windows XP Pre-RC 1 Build 2474) New Moon 27.10.0 (Windows XP Pre-RC 1 Build 2474) iTunes 12.1.3.6 (Windows XP Pre-RC 1 Build 2474+) Serpent (Windows .NET Server Build 3604 / Windows XP SP1+) Mypal 68 (Windows .NET Server Build 36?? / Windows XP SP1 Beta Build 2600.1055 July 2025:  Chrome 32.0.1700.107 Stable (vanilla Windows 200...

Google Chrome for Windows 98/ME + KernelEx

Image
First, install UNICOWS + KernelEx, then extract all files of chrome.7z of Google Chrome 0.2.149.27 with 7-Zip to Chrome-bin to C:\, and then move or copy chrome.exe to 0.2.149.27 folder. I inserted the winhttp.dll from Windows XP SP2 to c:\windows\system, and added --no-sandbox to Chrome shortcut. I tested, Result --> executed chrome.exe and set the KernelEx compatibility mode for chrome.exe and chrome.dll to Windows XP SP2 from the 0.2.149.27 folder, It starts, but it shows an Aw, Snap! error. Probably has to be for Windows NT kernel. Apparently, I feel like I'm accessing the site, but the pages don't seem to load, so I really don't know.
